How Are Plugs and Tunnels Measured? If you see the illustration below, you will see that plugs and tunnels are measured by their diameter. The diameter is the distance (in a straight line) between the two arrow points shown in the illustration below. (The diameter should not be confused with the circumference which, in contrast, is the distance around the barrel, and is not relevant at all to piercing jewellery.) So, if the diameter of the barrel part of the tunnel shown below is 10mm, then the tunnel is suitable for a 10mm stretched piercing.
How Are Stretchers and Expanders Measured? Using the illustration below, you will see that stretchers and expanders are measured by the diameter of their widest part. The diameter is the distance (in a straight line) between the two arrow points shown in the illustration below. (The diameter should not be confused with the circumference which, in contrast, is the distance around the barrel, and is not relevant at all to piercing jewellery.) So, if the diameter of the widest part of the stretcher is 10mm, then the product is suitable for stretching your piercing up to 10mm. When choosing your size of stretcher, you should try to avoid skipping sizes (such as going from a 6mm expander to a 10mm expander). Make use of the wide range of sizes on offer - the results will be worth it!
What is the Difference Between Millimetres and Gauge? Here in the UK, we measure piercing jewellery in millimetres (mm), whilst in the US and other countries it is measured by gauge and inches. For example, '0 gauge' in the US is the equivalent of 8mm in the UK. The two types of measurement should not be confused, and below is a conversion table to help you:- All US Gauge/Inch sizes shown are approximate. 7/8" All US Gauge/Inch sizes shown are approximate.
How Can I Stretch My Piercing Quickly? Don't! Well you can if you want to, but it's painful and you risk all kinds of problems such as skin tearing, bleeding and infection. Take it nice and slowly and you'll be able to stretch your piercing safely. We offer a fabulous range of Expanders and Stretchers in all kinds of colours and materials which you can use to slowly increase the size of your piercing. Use in conjunction with our Body Piercing Aftercare which is a vitamin-enriched oil blended specifically for stretched piercings.
